It’s not their votes I want, it’s their participation

That was a lazy sentence, more in my head than on the paper. I was just trying to say that it’s important they turn out, even if I don’t like how, or for whom they vote.

I think we’re agreed that it needs to be inclusive, so it’s down the sell, and, as you say, the mechanics.

In terms of the ballot paper, we need to decide how much we want the negative vote. Maybe that needs canvasing, will it bring more people to the booth?

If we’re just ranking, then a simple 1 to n might just be the simplest option all around.

Financing needs a lot of thought. Presumably there would be a pot for the material costs of flyers and the like. Maybe there needs to be a certain site, independently maintained, to host the campaign material — I guess we want to make the paying field as even as possible, so having flashing tech doesn’t sway voters?

The candidates need time off work, maybe months. Then if they win it’ll be a full time role. I don’t actually know how that works now, how do people earn a living between elections when they don’t win their seat?

Easy if you’re well paid or a consultant. This has got to be one of the key aspects if we want MP’s from all walks of life. Have you had any thoughts on this?
